Skully Unveils Revolutionary New Helmet

Have you ever tried looking at a GPS while riding? Not only is it difficult to multi-task while on the bike, it’s not the safest driving behavior either and many motorcycle accidents are caused by distracted driving. Well, there may just be a very cool solution that allows a rider to keep riding safely and enjoy the benefits of knowing where you’re going.

The Skully P1 motorcycle helmet, recently unveiled by its US based parent company, Skully, has been designed to reduce the amount of multi-tasking that is done by a rider, while enhancing the riding experience in other ways as well.

The Department of Transportation certified P1 runs on modified Android software offering riders a Heads up Display, or “HUD” for short, while also integrating a rear view camera, a hands free phone and voice command. Now, I know what you’re thinking, wouldn’t a HUD affect my field of vision, and further and endanger me? Not so, says Skully. In fact the HUD is located at the bottom right of your field of vision, and appears as though it is floating twenty feet ahead of you, actually quite similar to how Google Glass operates.

The HUD is multi-purpose as well. Besides showing you a map of the roads ahead, it is also connected to the already installed rear view camera, enabling you to clearly see what is behind you without putting the undue strain on your neck. Another cool feature of the HUD rear view camera is that it incorporates a 180 degree field of vision. This will allow you to clearly see when it is safe to change lanes. If you’ve ever done a lot of highway or city riding, you know that this feature will really alleviate a lot of the guesswork when navigating your bike through traffic.
Marcus Weller, Chairman and CEO of Skully Helmets put it this way: "For riders, awareness is crucial. We designed the Skully P1 to operate as a natural extension of the senses. It sees, it hears, it feels, and, most importantly, it thinks and connects you with the rest of the world. This is just the beginning for this platform."

The helmet and its Android technology can also be connected to your smartphone through Bluetooth, allowing the voice command feature to take center stage. Making phone calls hands free and punching up a little mood music when you want it without taking your focus off the road really does make this helmet and all of its features something consider.

When Skully revealed the helmet at the 2013 DEMO Conference, they did not state when the helmet would be available for retail, nor did they state the retail price. However, it would appear that they have taken motorcycle safety to a whole new level.

More details here on their website. http://www.skullyhelmets.com/ And try to register to be a beta tester.. Would be a experience :)
